Ossila M2399A1 is a white antimony(III) oxide (Sb2O3, CAS 1309-64-4) powder with purity above 99.97% and an average particle size below 210 nm. This inorganic semiconductor combines high photon conductivity with excellent chemical stability, and in nature it is found as the minerals valentinite and senarmontite.
In energy storage research, antimony(III) materials are attractive anode candidates for lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries thanks to their high energy density and long service life. Reported results include a Sb2O3 composite delivering 640.8 mA h g −1 at 0.2 A g −1 after 50 cycles in lithium-ion cells, and a Sb2O3 anode in sodium-ion cells reaching 550 mA h g –1 at 0.05 A g –1, 265 mA h g –1 at 5 A g –1, and a reversible 414 mA h g –1 at 0.5 A g –1 over 200 stable cycles.
Beyond batteries, the oxide serves as a synergist that strongly boosts halogenated flame retardants, as a catalyst for PET and rubber manufacture, and as an opacifier for glass, ceramics and enamels.
