This Ossila product (M2302A25) is a medium-sized bulk crystal of niobium diselenide (NbSe2, CAS 12034-77-4) in the 2H phase, with a typical area of ≥25 mm2 and purity of ≥99.999%. Grown synthetically by chemical vapor transport (CVT), it serves mainly as a source for producing single-layer or few-layer NbSe2 sheets by mechanical or liquid exfoliation.
NbSe2 is a group-V transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) and a 2D metal. Its layered hexagonal lattice consists of Se–Nb–Se sandwiches, with each Nb atom held in a trigonal prismatic cage of six Se atoms; neighbouring layers are held together by van der Waals forces. The 2H polytype is superconducting, with Tc ≈ 7.2 K, and atomically thin sheets show charge-density waves coexisting with superconductivity at low temperatures (T CDW = 33 K).
Crystals and the films exfoliated from them are suited to examination by atomic force microscopy or transmission electron microscopy. Crystal area is a typical representative value and individual pieces may vary.
