Ossila M2302C1 is niobium diselenide (NbSe2, CAS 12034-77-4) powder with a purity of ≥99.995%, supplied in 500 mg and 1 g packs. NbSe2 is a group-V two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) that behaves as a 2D metal and superconductor, and it is widely researched because charge-density waves (T CDW = 33 K) and superconductivity (T C = 7.2 K) coexist in atomically thin nanosheets at low temperature.
The material has a layered hexagonal structure in which each monolayer consists of a niobium layer held between two selenium layers, with Nb atoms in trigonal prismatic coordination. Neighbouring layers are held together by van der Waals forces, which makes the powder well suited to liquid exfoliation, typically assisted by sonication or microwave heating, to produce nanosheets, nanoparticles and few-layer films.
The layered structure can also host intercalated foreign elements or ions, allowing conductivity, heat capacity and superconductivity to be modified. The powder is produced synthetically by chemical vapor transport (CVT) and is dark grey to black in colour.

- Intercalation studies to tune conductivity, heat capacity and superconductivity.
- Research into electrode and anode materials for lithium-ion, sodium-ion and magnesium-ion batteries.
- Development of electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER).
- Investigation of exfoliated NbSe2 particles as conducting lubricants in vacuum.
- Research on optoelectronic devices such as UV photodetectors.
