This conductive additive from Nanografi is a composite of carbon nanotubes and carbon black designed for lithium-ion battery electrodes. Supplied as a black powder, it delivers high electrical conductivity and disperses readily into electrode formulations for both anodes and cathodes.
The carbon black component plays a practical role: its particles keep the dispersed carbon nanotubes from clumping back together, helping maintain a uniform conductive network throughout the electrode.
Compared with conventional conductive additives, the material is reported to give Li-ion cells a longer cycle life and markedly better performance at high currents (around a twofold improvement), roughly 10% higher tap density, greater electrode conductivity, and electrodes with improved mechanical strength and adhesion. The nanotubes have an outside diameter of 50.0-80.0 nm and a length of 5.0-20.0 μm, with a specific surface area above 55.0 m2/g.
