This coin style single wafer shipper is a cylindrical container made for transporting and storing one 3'' (76 mm) wafer. It is intended mainly for thin silicon wafers, and the design also suits glass, quartz, sapphire, GaAs and other thin round wafers.
The shipper is built from three parts: a base, a spider spring and a locking cap. The base has a concave interior, so the wafer sits facedown and touches the holder only at its edge. When the screw-on cap is locked to the base, the eight-point spring cushion keeps the wafer in position and helps absorb impact. The closure is positive, and the units can be stacked.
The body is moulded from natural translucent polypropylene (PP), a milky white, insulating material with low dielectric constant and water absorption below 0.01%. It tolerates IPA and acetone, with a continuous use temperature limit of 55 C. Overall dimensions are Ø85 x 13 mm, and the shipper supports both manual and automated loading and unloading.
- Shipping individual 3'' silicon wafers between labs, fabs and customers.
- Storing single wafers with edge-only contact to protect the wafer face.
- Transporting thin glass, quartz, sapphire or GaAs wafers of 3'' diameter.
- Loading and unloading wafers in manual or automated handling workflows.
