These graphitized multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) carry carboxyl (-COOH) groups on their surface, at a content of 1.0 wt%. The material is a black powder with a purity above 99.99 % and an ash content of 0.1 wt%, suited to research and development work where clean, functionalized nanotubes are required.
The tubes are grown by CVD and then processed at 2800 °C. They have an outside diameter of 8-18 nm, an inside diameter of 5-10 nm and a length of 10-20 µm. Other properties include a specific surface area of 110 m2/g, a true density of 2.2 g/cm3 and an electrical conductivity of 98 S/cm.
Multi walled carbon nanotubes are studied across medicine, mechanics, electrical and electronic engineering, chemistry and energy, with uses ranging from composites and catalysis to batteries, supercapacitors and sensors.
- Reinforcing and functional fillers in CNT composite materials.
- Electrode materials for lithium batteries and supercapacitors.
- Biosensors, nanoprobes and drug delivery research.
- Catalysis and hydrogen storage studies.
- Electronic devices such as transistors, flat panel displays, gas-discharge tubes and solar cells.
- Photoluminescence studies and use as templates.
