Carboxyl-functionalized single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are carbon nanomaterials in which single-layer graphene cylinders carry (-COOH) carboxylic acid groups on their surfaces. The functionalization is intended to improve dispersion in polar solvents and compatibility with polymer and inorganic matrices while keeping the one-dimensional structure of the parent nanotube. Materials in this class are widely used in research where surface chemistry is as important as the nanotube core.
