Nitinol is a nickel-titanium shape memory alloy, classified as a functional metallic alloy. This 1 mm diameter wire can recover a pre-set shape after deformation when heated above its transformation temperature, and it often shows superelastic behavior. The stated austenite finish (AF) range of 15-20°C indicates the temperature at which the material completes its reverse transformation to the parent phase.
