These graphitized multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) carry hydroxyl (-OH) groups on their surface, with an (-OH) content of 0.55 wt%. The black powder reaches a purity above 99.99 % and has a low ash level of 0.1 wt%, making it a clean starting material for research and development work on carbon nanomaterials.
Each tube has an outside diameter of 28-48 nm, an inside diameter of 5-10 nm and a length of 10-30 µm. The material shows a true density of 2.2 g/cm3, a specific surface area of 35 m2/g and an electrical conductivity of 98 S/cm. Production is by chemical vapour deposition (CVD), with processing at 800 °C.
The nanotubes suit work across medicine, mechanics, electrical and electronic engineering, chemistry and energy, from composite reinforcement to electrode and sensor development.
- Preparation of CNT composites with functionalized nanotube reinforcement.
- Electrode research for lithium batteries and supercapacitors.
- Development of biosensors, nanoprobes and drug delivery systems.
- Catalysis studies and hydrogen storage research.
- Electronic devices such as transistors, flat panel displays, gas-discharge tubes and solar cells.
- Photoluminescence studies and use as templates for nanostructure fabrication.
