These single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) carry hydroxyl (-OH) groups on their surface, with an -OH content of 4.0%. Each tube is built from a single one-atom-thick graphene sheet rolled into a long hollow cylinder, giving a black powder with purity above 65 wt%, an average diameter of 1.0 nm and lengths of 5-35 µm.
SWCNTs are valued for outstanding thermal, mechanical and electrical behaviour. The hydroxyl functionalization improves dispersion in water, polar solvents and polymer matrices, and provides reactive sites for attaching biomolecules or interacting with metal ions and catalytic species.
The material is produced by CVD and offers a specific surface area of 400 m2/g, electrical conductivity of 98 S/cm and thermal conductivity of 45-190 W/m.K, with an Ig/Id ratio of 9. It suits research in composites, biosensing, catalysis, molecular electronics and energy storage.
- Biosensors, drug delivery systems and bioimaging platforms that benefit from improved aqueous dispersibility and biocompatibility.
- Heterogeneous catalysis, photocatalysis and template-assisted synthesis using the interaction of -OH groups with metal ions.
- Polymer composites requiring uniform nanotube dispersion for mechanical reinforcement, thermal stability and electrical conductivity.
- Electrodes for supercapacitors, lithium-ion batteries and fuel cells with improved electrode–electrolyte interaction.
- Research in molecular electronics and nano mechanical devices.
