1,2,4,5-Tetra((4-aminophenyl)ethynyl)benzene, often abbreviated TAEB (CAS 2375652-88-1), is an amine-functionalized bridging ligand used to build covalent organic frameworks (COFs). Supplied at >98% purity as a green to dark yellow powder or crystals, it is aimed at researchers developing porous materials for gas uptake and photocatalysis.
Structurally, TAEB consists of a central benzene ring carrying four ethynyl bridges at the 1,2,4,5-positions, each ending in a 4-aniline group. This gives a highly symmetrical, cross-shaped building block (tecton). Its outer amino groups readily condense with aldehydes or acids, forming imine or amide linkages that knit the molecules into microporous frameworks.
The compound is made by Sonogashira cross-coupling of 4-ethynylaniline with 1,2,4,5-tetrabromobenzene, using Pd(PPh3)4 and copper iodide as catalysts. It belongs to the tetraethynylbenzene family of COF ligands.
