1,2,4,5-Tetrakis(4-formylphenyl)benzene (TFPB, CAS 883835-33-4) is an aldehyde-functional terphenyl ligand used to build covalent organic frameworks (COFs). Its cross-shaped structure carries four 4-formylphenyl groups on a central benzene ring at the 1,2,4,5-positions, making it a reactive linker for cross-linked COF networks. It is supplied with >98% purity as a white or off-white powder or crystals.
Published work shows its versatility. Condensed with 2,5-diaminobenzene-1,4-dithiol (DABDT), it forms the thiol-decorated SH-COF-2, with a surface area of 227 m2 g−1, a capacitance of 118 mF cm−2 and >95% capacitance retention after 1000 cycles. Paired with PyTTA nodes, it gives the highly conjugated 2D framework TFPB-PyTTA-COF, which is chemically and physically stable and takes up iodine at up to 5.6 g g−1.
Combined with TPE-NH2 through a [4 + 2] route, TFPB yields COF-TPE-TPB-B, whose dangling formyl groups improve hydrophilicity and charge separation for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution.
