((1,3,5-Triazine-2,4,6-triyl)tris(benzene-4,1-diyl))triboronic acid, also known as TPBATRz or TBBA (CAS 910231-21-9), is a trigonal boronic acid linker used to build covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and covalent polymeric frameworks (CPFs). Its central triazine ring carries three 4-phenylboronic acid groups at the 1,3,5-positions, giving a three-armed building block for cross-linked networks.
The boronic acid groups take part in boronic acid condensation and Suzuki coupling, allowing the core to be extended into extended polymeric structures. Aromatic dendrimers built on a 2,4,6-triphenyl-1,3,5-triazine skeleton are associated with improved thermal stability and photophysical behaviour linked to better electron transfer, which makes them of interest for OLEDs, OFETs and sensors.
In reported work, a donor–acceptor framework (CPF1) combining a triphenyltriazine core with three 3-hexylthiophene units showed electrochromic switching of 5.1 s for coloring and 8.6 s for bleaching, a coloration efficiency of 163.7 cm2 C−1 and 36% optical contrast retained over 150 cycles. A pressure sensor based on CPF1 reached a sensitivity of ∼2.92 kPa−1 with durability of ∼2500 cycles. Ossila supplies the material at >98% purity as a white to off-white powder or crystals.
