1,3,5-Tris(3-fluoro-4-formylphenyl)benzene (TFFPB, CAS 2088007-04-7) is a trigonal, fluorinated aldehyde linker used to build covalent organic frameworks (COFs). Its benzene core carries three 3-fluoro-4-formylphenyl arms at the meta positions. The aldehyde groups form covalent bonds that extend the molecule into a framework, and the fluorine atoms raise the fluorine content of the final material.
Reacting TFFPB with 1,3,5-tris(4-aminophenyl)benzene (TPB) at room temperature gives TPTF-COF, a porous, fluorine-rich framework. It is highly crystalline, thermally stable and has a specific surface area of 1084.61 m2·g−1. When TFFPB nodes are joined through acrylonitrile linkages, the resulting COF responds quickly to pH changes in both absorption and fluorescence. Compared with its nonfluorinated counterpart, it shows a 20% higher fluorescence quantum yield and faster response under acid–base induction.
Ossila supplies TFFPB at >98% purity as a white to yellow to orange powder or crystals. Its fluoro and aldehyde groups also allow post-functionalization.
- Synthesis of fluorine-rich, crystalline covalent organic frameworks such as TPTF-COF.
