1,3,5-Tris[4-amino(1,1-biphenyl-4-yl)]benzene, known as TABPB (CAS 1400987-00-9), is a three-armed amine building block used to construct covalent organic frameworks (COFs), covalent polymeric frameworks and metal–organic frameworks. Structurally it is a hexaphenylbenzene derivative: a central benzene ring carries three 4-amino-[1,1'-biphenyl] arms placed meta to one another. Small twists between the phenyl rings help limit aggregation-induced quenching, which makes the linker attractive for fluorescent materials.
The terminal amine groups condense readily with aldehydes to give imine-linked frameworks. Pairing TABPB with 2,5-dihydroxybenzaldehyde yields a strongly fluorescent COF emitting at 408 nm, reported for nitrofurazone detection over 0.066–39 µg mL−1 with a detection limit of 0.022 µg mL−1. In the 2D donor–acceptor framework JNM-18, TABPB acts as the electron donor alongside Cu(I) cyclic trinuclear acceptor units, giving efficient photocatalytic aerobic oxidation of benzylamines under violet LED light.
Ossila supplies TABPB at >97% purity as a dark beige to pale brown powder or crystals, in 500 mg and 1 g packs.
