1,3,5-Tris(4-aminophenyl)benzene, commonly abbreviated TAPB (CAS 118727-34-7), is a tritopic amine building block for covalent organic frameworks (COFs). Its structure consists of a central benzene ring bearing three 4-aminophenyl arms at the meta-positions, giving a trigonal geometry that suits cross-linked, porous polymer networks. Ossila supplies it at >97% purity as a pale brown to brown powder or crystals.
The amine groups take part readily in polycondensation reactions. Condensing TAPB with naphthalene-1,4,5,8-tetracarboxylic dianhydride gives the polyimide framework PAF-120, which is thermally and chemically robust and adsorbs C2H2 selectively over C2H4 and CO2 over N2. A three-component imine COF built from TAPB, 2,5-divinylterephthaldehyde and biphenyl dialdehyde captures bisphenol A and bisphenol S through hydrogen bonding and π–π interactions.
TAPB is also relevant to organic electronics: thin films of the 2D TAPB–TFB COF show strong photoconductivity, with a charge scattering time above 70 fs at room temperature and a charge carrier mobility of 165 ± 10 cm2 V–1 s–1.
