1,3,5-Tris(4-ethynylphenyl)benzene, also known as TEPB (CAS 71866-86-9), is a trigonal terphenyl building block used as a linker in covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and porous conjugated polymers (PCPs). Its central benzene ring carries three 4-ethynylphenyl arms in meta positions, giving three terminal alkyne groups for constructing cross-linked, semiconducting networks.
The terminal alkynes make TEPB well suited to click chemistry and Sonogashira coupling. In one reported example, coupling TEPB with 2,7-dibromodibenzo[b,d]thiophene 5,5-dioxide gave the microporous polymer PCP-SO-TPB, which showed high BET surface area, strong CO2/N2 selectivity and broad visible-light absorption, producing carbon monoxide at 40.12 μmol h−1 g−1 with nearly 100% selectivity and no sacrificial reagent or cocatalyst.
Oxidative coupling of TEPB has also produced 1,3-diyne-linked conjugated microporous polymer nanosheets that generate hydrogen under visible light with a quantum efficiency of 10.3% at 420 nm. Ossila supplies the material at >97% purity as an off-white to yellow powder or crystals.
