1,3,5-Tris(4-formylphenyl)benzene (TFPB, CAS 118688-53-2) is a building block for covalent organic frameworks (COFs). Its triphenylbenzene core carries three aldehyde groups, giving a reactive tri-functional linker for cross-linked COF networks. It is supplied as an off-white powder with a purity of >98%.
The aldehyde groups condense readily with amine derivatives to form imine-linked COFs used for CO2 capture. A benzothiazole COF prepared this way reached a surface area of 328 m2/g, adsorbed 7.8 wt% CO2 at 273 K/bar, and stayed thermally stable up to 450 °C under N2.
TFPB can also undergo Knoevenagel condensation with benzyl cyanide derivatives to give a two-dimensional semiconducting COF. This material has been studied for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution, with a production rate of 2.9 μmol/h. Published work also covers fluorescent COFs for sensing applications.
- Synthesis of imine-linked COFs for selective CO2 adsorption.
- Preparation of two-dimensional semiconducting COFs by Knoevenagel condensation.
- Research on COF photocatalysts for hydrogen evolution.
- Development of fluorescent COF-based sensors, including nitroaromatic and pyrethroid detection.
