1,3,5-Tris[(4-phenylboronic acid)]benzene, also known as TPBAB, is a tritopic boronic acid ligand (CAS 900795-73-5) used as a bridging linker in the synthesis of covalent organic frameworks (COFs). Its triangular core carries three phenyl boronic acid groups at the meta positions of a central benzene ring, making it well suited to forming cross-linked networks through condensation chemistry. It also takes part readily in Suzuki coupling.
Combined with 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene, TPBAB yields COF-8, a 2D framework with crystalline micropores and mesopores, low density, good thermal stability and a surface area of 1400 m2 g-1. Reacting it with 2,3,6,7,14,15-hexaaminotriptycene gives the amorphous diazaborole-linked polymer DBLP-4, which reaches a BET surface area of 904 m2 g-1 and takes up 4.5 mmol g-1 of CO2 at 273 K, with good CO2/N2 selectivity at ambient pressure.
The material is supplied at >97% purity as an off-white to light brown powder or crystals, in 250 mg, 500 mg, 1 g and 5 g pack sizes.
