1,3,6,8-Tetraethynyl-9H-carbazole (TECz, CAS 2415951-75-4) is a carbazole-based bridging ligand carrying four ethynyl arms at the 1, 3, 6 and 8 positions of the ring. It serves mainly as a fluorescent building block for constructing covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs). Its terminal alkyne groups make it well suited to click chemistry and Sonogashira coupling, and it can also be used to end-cap COF networks.
In published work, combining this carbazole unit with ferrocene gave the polymer Fc-CBZ-CMP, where improved electron-hole separation boosts formation of reactive oxygen species under visible light. The material degraded methylene blue more effectively than commercial TiO2 (P25) and converted 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide into a fully nontoxic product.
A hexyl derivative, 1,3,6,8-tetraethynyl-9-hexyl-9H-carbazole, has shown strong fluorescence quenching in the presence of nitroexplosive molecules, supporting sensing applications. Ossila supplies TECz as a light brown powder or crystals with purity above 97%.
