1,3,6,8-Tetrakis(4-formylphenyl)pyrene (TFPPy, CAS 1415238-25-3) is a tetratopic aldehyde linker used to build covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and porous organic polymers. Its pyrene core carries four 4-formylphenyl arms, and the reactive aldehyde groups extend the network through condensation reactions. The material is supplied at >97% purity as a yellow to orange powder or crystals.
Published work shows what frameworks made from this linker can do. Py-ClTP-BT-COF, a 2D COF combining TFPPy with a dichlorobenzothiadiazole dianiline, reached a photocatalytic H2 evolution rate of 177.50 μmol h−1 with an apparent quantum efficiency of 8.45%. An amide-linked pyrene COF, TFPPy–DP, removed 82% of 238 ppm uranyl at pH 3 after 2 h of visible-light irradiation.
TFPPy has also been used in porous organic polymers. After carbonization, Py-PDT POP-600 gave a surface area of 314 m2 g−1, CO2 uptake of 2.7 mmol g−1 at 298 K and a specific capacitance of 550 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1.
