1,4-Bis(4-aminophenoxy)benzene, also known as TPE-Q (CAS 3491-12-1), is a diamine building block built around a phenyl ether core. Its two terminal amine groups make it a convenient monomer for reacting with carboxylic acid dianhydrides to produce polyimides that tolerate high temperatures.
The molecule contains three benzene rings joined by two oxygen atoms in the para position. This phenyl ether unit acts as an electron-donating group, which is useful when designing intra- and intermolecular charge transfer complexes. It also serves as a bisphenoxybenzene ligand for cross-linked COF and MOF networks.
Polyimides derived from TPE-Q have been used as ultra-thin flexible substrates that withstand annealing of MoS2 up to 500°C for biopotential sensor devices. Dielectrics prepared from TPE-Q show a Weibull breakdown strength of 440-540 MV/m and a dielectric permittivity of 3.52-3.85, while composites with boron nitride reach a thermal conductivity of 2.75 W/m⋅K. The material is supplied as a pale brown powder with >99% purity.
