1,5-Dibromonaphthalene (1,5-DBN, CAS 7351-74-8) is a dibromonaphthalene isomer supplied by Ossila as a building block for organic semiconductor synthesis. With bromine atoms at the 1 and 5 positions of the naphthalene core, it offers convenient reactive sites for building OLED, OFET and organic photovoltaic materials. It is produced by direct selective electrophilic substitution of 1-bromonaphthalene.
One documented use is the preparation of 1,5-di(anthracen-2-yl)naphthalene (1,5-DAN), a material combining strong blue solid-state emission with efficient charge transport. 1,5-DAN reaches a single-crystal mobility of up to 8.41 cm 2 V -1 s -1 and a photoluminescence quantum yield of up to 20.54%. Its blue emission arises from the large torsion angle between the substituents and the core, in contrast to analogues substituted at the 2,6-positions.
The material has a purity of >98% by 1H NMR, appears as a white to off-white powder or crystals, and melts at 130 °C. It is offered in 1 g, 5 g and 10 g packs.
