2,1,3-Benzothiadiazole-4,7-bis(boronic acid pinacol ester) (CAS 934365-16-9) is a Bpin-capped benzothiadiazole building block used to make small molecules, oligomers and polymers through Suzuki coupling. Ossila supplies it at >98% purity as a white to off-white powder.
Because the 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole unit is electron deficient, it is a common component of low band gap semiconducting materials, including F8BT and PCPDTBT. PCPDTBT, for example, can be prepared by coupling this boronic ester with 2,6-dibromo-4,4-bis(2-ethylhexyl)-4H-cyclopenta[1,2-b:5,4-b']dithiophene.
The resulting materials can be deposited by printing, spray coating or spin coating to build organic light-emitting diodes (OLED/PLED), organic field-effect transistors and organic photovoltaic devices. The compound has a melting point of 213 °C - 215 °C and is characterised by 1H NMR in CDCl3.
