2,2'-(9,9-dioctyl-9H-fluorene-2,7-diyl)bis(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolane) (CAS 196207-58-6), also known as 9,9-dioctylfluorene-2,7-diboronic acid bis(pinacol) ester, is a monomer used to build semiconducting polymers. It is supplied as a white powder with a purity of >98% and serves research in OLEDs, PLEDs, OFETs and polymer solar cells.
Alkylated polyfluorenes are valued for pure blue, efficient electroluminescence, high charge-carrier mobility and good processability, which makes them attractive for displays and photovoltaics. This diboronic ester provides the polyfluorene unit found in materials such as PFO (F8), F8BT and PFN.
A typical route is Suzuki coupling polymerization with 4,7-dibromo-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole to give F8BT. F8BT can be blended with PFO to make high-efficiency green OLEDs or used as an acceptor in polymer blend devices, while PFN acts as a cathode interlayer in OPV devices to improve electron extraction. The material is characterized by 1H-NMR in CDCl3.
- Synthesis of F8BT by Suzuki coupling polymerization with 4,7-dibromo-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole.
- Preparation of polyfluorene emitters for OLED and PLED research.
- Synthesis of polymer semiconductors for organic field-effect transistors (OFETs).
- Building conjugated polymers, such as the PFN interlayer, for polymer solar cells.
