2,2-Bis(3-(3-aminobenzoylamino)-4-hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane (m-6FDAP), CAS 220426-92-6, is a fluorinated diamine building block supplied at >99% purity as a white to pale yellow powder or crystal. Its hexafluorodiphenylpropane core carries two aniline end groups and two pendant hydroxy groups, making it a versatile monomer for polyimide synthesis.
When heated to 425 °C under nitrogen, the amide linkages react with the neighbouring hydroxy groups and rearrange into benzoxazole units. Polyimides made from m-6FDAP therefore gain rigidity and thermal stability, properties exploited in water-permeable membranes. In a core-shell nanocomposite with BaTiO3, an m-6FDAP polyimide delivered a discharge energy of 23.1 J/cm3 with 65% charge-discharge efficiency, pointing to use in energy-storage capacitors.
The hydroxy side groups can also be modified through the Mitsunobu reaction to give grafted polyimides. Quinoline-grafted versions have shown a second-harmonic generation coefficient of 15 pm/V (at 635 nm) and an electro-optic coefficient of 6 pm/V (at 1300 nm).
- Synthesis of thermally rearranged, rigid polyimides for water-permeable membranes.
- Preparation of polyimide shells in BaTiO3 nanocomposites for energy-storage capacitors.
- Production of grafted nonlinear optical polyimides via Mitsunobu functionalization for photonics.
- Use as a fluorinated diamine building block for COFs and polyamides.
