2,2-Bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane, known as 6FAP (CAS 83558-87-6), is a fluorinated monomer with a purity above 99%. Its structure consists of two aminophenol units joined through a hexafluoropropane bridge, giving it amine and hydroxy groups that make it a versatile intermediate for polyimides and polybenzoxazoles.
When reacted with dicarboxylic anhydrides, 6FAP behaves like other diamines and yields polyimide membranes. These fluorinated membranes feature ultrafine microporosity with gas selectivity towards hydrogen, and combine high proton conductivity with good chemical and thermal stability, which suits them to fuel cell systems. Polyimides derived from 6FAP also display photosensitivity as second order nonlinear optical properties.
Hydroxy groups that remain unreacted along the polyimide backbone can be used for grafting through Mitsunobu or condensation reactions. Because the hydroxy and amine groups sit ortho to each other, 6FAP is well suited to building polybenzoxazoles for semiconductor manufacturing. It is supplied as a white to off-white powder.
- Synthesis of polyimide membranes with hydrogen gas selectivity.
