2,4,6-Tris-(p-carboxyphenyl)pyrdin, also known as H3PTB or 4,4',4''-(Pyridine-2,4,6-triyl)tribenzoic acid (CAS 107063-53-6), is a triangular, tritopic linker used to construct metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Its central pyridine ring carries a 4-carboxyphenyl group at each of the 2, 4 and 6 positions. Ossila supplies it as an off white powder or crystal with a purity of >98%.
Combined with aluminium ion cluster nodes, H3PTB forms the luminescent MOF PCN-604, which is thermally and chemically robust and glows strongly in water. This framework responds selectively to trace Fe3+ ions, with a quenching constant of 2.85 x 10^4 M-1 and a detection limit of 6.2 μM.
Other frameworks built from this linker include the mesoporous copper network [Cu3(H3PTB)2(H2O)3]n, which serves a dual role in organic dye removal, and a microporous anionic Zn-H3PTB MOF whose open channels trap the cationic dye methylene blue. The zinc framework also catalyses the cycloaddition of CO2 with epoxides to give cyclic carbonates.
- Synthesis of metal-organic frameworks as a triangular tritopic ligand linker.
- Luminescent MOF sensors for detecting trace Fe3+ ions in water.
- Mesoporous and microporous MOFs for removing organic dyes such as methylene blue.
- MOF catalysts for CO2 fixation with epoxides to produce cyclic carbonates.
