2,4,6-Tris[4-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)phenyl]-1,3,5-triazine (TBPTRz, CAS 1447947-87-6) is a triazine-cored bridging ligand carrying pinacol boronate (Bpin) groups. Structurally it is the pinacol boronate of 2,4,6-triphenyl-1,3,5-triazine, and it serves mainly as a building block for conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) and cross-linked covalent organic framework (COF) networks. The Bpin groups are highly reactive, making coupling reactions straightforward.
In published work, Suzuki coupling of TBPTRz with tris(4-bromophenyl)amine gave the porous aromatic framework LNU-18-800. Tested as an electrode material in 6 M KOH, it reached a maximum specific capacitance of 269 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1.
Coupling TBPTRz with dibromopyrenes produced the CMPs TzSPy and TzPy, which evolved hydrogen at 10.3 and 6.93 mmol g−1 h−1 respectively under simulated sunlight (AM1.5G). The 1,6-linked TzSPy, despite a larger torsional angle, shows greater conjugation and absorbs visible light over a wider range. The material is supplied at >97% purity as a white powder to fibers/crystals.
