2,4,6-Tris(4-ethynylphenyl)-1,3,5-triazine (TEPT, CAS 425629-22-7) is a triazine-based ligand used as a building block for covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and porous organic polymers. Its electron-deficient, nitrogen-rich triazine centre carries three 4-ethynylphenyl arms, and the terminal alkyne groups act as reactive sites for network growth.
These ethynyl groups take part in Sonogashira–Hagihara cross-coupling to give extended COF structures, and they also react with azides in click polymerization to produce microporous organic polymers. In one reported example, click polymerization of TEPT with aromatic azide linkers gave the polymer CMOP-1, with a BET surface area of 431 m2·g−1 and pores mostly below 1.2 nm. Thanks to its high nitrogen content, CMOP-1 took up 1.85 mmol·g−1 of CO2 at 273 K/1.0 bar, up to 2.94 mmol·g−1 of H2 at 77 K/1.0 bar, and an I2 vapour load of 160 wt.%.
Ossila supplies TEPT at >98% purity as a yellow to orange powder or crystals, in 500 mg, 1 g and 5 g pack sizes.
