2,5-Bis(allyloxy)terephthalohydrazide (CAS 2227151-69-9), also known as BATH, is a benzene-based linker carrying two hydrazide groups and two allyloxy groups. It is supplied as an off-white fluffy powder with a purity above 97% and is used to build covalent organic frameworks (COFs) for batteries, sensors, catalysts and optoelectronics.
Its hydrazide groups condense with aldehyde derivatives to give hydrazone-linked COFs. The allyloxy side groups stay available after framework formation, so the COF can be modified further with alkenes such as poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (PEGMA) through radical polymerization. A COF-PEGMA material made this way has been used as a solid-state electrolyte for lithium batteries, reaching an ionic conductivity of 5.3 × 10−5 S/cm and a lithium ion transference number of 0.47.
The allyloxy pendants can also bind Hg2+ ions, and this binding quenches the COF's fluorescence, which makes these frameworks useful for selective mercury detection in water purification work.
- Synthesis of hydrazone-linked covalent organic frameworks by reaction with aldehyde derivatives.
- Preparation of PEGMA-functionalized COF solid-state electrolytes for lithium batteries.
- Fluorescent COF probes for selective detection of mercury(II) ions in water purification.
- Building COF supports for palladium catalysts.
- Research on porous organic polymer films for molecular nanofiltration and optoelectronics.
