2,5-Bis(octyloxy)terephthalaldehyde (CAS 123440-34-6), also known as C8PDA, is a benzene-based building block carrying two aldehyde groups and two n-octyloxy chains. Supplied as a bright yellow powder with purity above 98%, it serves as a dialdehyde linker for covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and as a monomer for organic semiconductors.
Its aldehyde groups react readily with amines such as triaminophenylbenzene through imine formation, giving porous COFs. One such framework showed a BET surface area of 1202 m2/g and has been used in memristors with an on/off ratio of an order of magnitude.
The compound is also an intermediate for vinylene-bridged macromolecules, whose extended π-conjugation improves charge carrier mobility in organic semiconductors. A fully conjugated polyimine built from it reached a power conversion efficiency of 0.17% in a preliminary photovoltaic study.
- Synthesis of imine-linked covalent organic frameworks with amine derivatives such as triaminophenylbenzene.
- Preparation of porous COF layers for resistive switching memory devices (memristors).
- Synthesis of vinylene-bridged conjugated macromolecules for organic semiconductors.
- Preparation of conjugated polyimines for photovoltaic research.
- Building block for cross-linked COF and MOF networks.
