2,5-bis(trimethylstannyl)thieno[3,2-b]thiophene (CAS 469912-82-1) is a thienothiophene building block end-capped with trimethyltin groups. It is supplied as white crystals with a purity of >98% (NMR) and serves as a monomer for building oligomers and polymers for organic electronics.
The trimethylstannyl groups make the compound well suited to Stille coupling with dibromo partners. Because the fused thienothiophene core extends conjugation across two thiophene rings and carries higher electron density, it helps tune the energy gap of the resulting polymers. This makes it a useful unit in materials for organic field effect transistors, sensors and organic photovoltaic devices.
Ossila chemists have used this monomer in-house to make DPP-DTT, a high mobility p-type polymer, by Stille polymerization with 3,6-bis(5-bromothiophen-2-yl)-2,5-bis(2-octyldodecyl)pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4(2H,5H)-dione. It is available in 1 g and 5 g packs.
