2,5-Dibutoxyterephthalohydrazide (CAS 1136292-72-2), also known as 2,5-dibutoxybenzene-1,4-dicarbohydrazide, is a dibutoxybenzene monomer carrying two hydrazide groups in para positions. Supplied as an off-white powder with purity above 97%, it serves as a ligand for building cross-linked covalent organic framework (COF) and MOF networks.
Its hydrazide groups react readily with aldehyde derivatives, giving hydrazone-linked COFs. Frameworks made this way have been studied for selective uranium extraction from seawater, reaching an uptake capacity of 11.3 mg/g; mechanistic work indicates that the alkoxy side groups strengthen [UO2]2+ binding at the hydrazone sites via hydrogen bonding.
COFs derived from this monomer have also been applied to iodine pollutant capture, with capacities of 2.16 g/g for I2 in air and 4.46 g/g for I3- in aqueous solution, and to COF-based membranes for biobutanol production.
- Synthesis of hydrazone-linked covalent organic frameworks through reaction with aldehyde derivatives.
- Preparation of COF adsorbents for selective uranium extraction from seawater.
- Development of COF materials for capturing iodine pollutants in air and aqueous solution.
- Fabrication of COF-based membranes for biobutanol separation.
- Research on porous organic frameworks for water purification.
