2,5-Diethoxyterephthalohydrazide (CAS 1136292-71-1), also known as DETH or 2,5-diethoxybenzene-1,4-dicarbohydrazide, is a hydrazide ligand used to build covalent organic frameworks (COFs). Its structure is a para-diethoxybenzene core carrying carbohydrazide groups at the 1- and 4-positions, and the reactive hydrazide groups allow straightforward condensation into cross-linked networks. It is supplied as a white powder with >98% purity.
The compound is best known as a building block for COF-42, formed with 1,3,5-triformylbenzene. The hydrazide linkages make COF-42 chemically robust, and it is widely used as a platform for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution. Reacting DETH with metalated porphyrinic aldehydes gives 2D MPor-DETH-COFs (M: Zn, Ni, Co), which show photocurrents of up to 0.9 μA/cm2 and average hydrogen evolution rates up to 413 μmol/g/h.
Frameworks prepared from DETH and triformylbenzene derivatives contain many amine sites, which favour CO2 capture. These COFs reach a surface area of 2336 m2/g with CO2 uptake capacities of 1.14-2.66 mmol/g. Reported uses also include sensors and filtration membranes.
- Synthesis of COF-42 by condensation with 1,3,5-triformylbenzene.
- Preparation of porphyrin-based 2D COFs for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution.
- Construction of amine-rich COFs for CO2 sorption.
- Development of light-emitting COFs for sensing applications.
- Fabrication of COF-based filtration membranes.
