2,5-Dimethoxyterephthalohydrazide (CAS 114503-42-3), also known as DMTH, is a dimethoxybenzene building block carrying two hydrazide groups in para positions on a p-dimethoxybenzene core. Supplied as an off-white powder with purity above 97%, it serves as a ligand for constructing covalent organic frameworks (COFs).
Its hydrazide groups are highly reactive towards aldehydes, forming hydrazone linkages that cross-link into extended COF networks. Combined with triformylbenzene, it yields a heterogeneous COF photocatalyst with a surface area of 1501 m2/g that performs efficiently in cross-dehydrogenative coupling reactions. Hydrazone-linked COFs built from this monomer have also been studied for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution.
The compound can additionally be used to prepare β-ketoenamine based COFs. The resulting 2D frameworks show high crystallinity, good stability and photoluminescence, with fluorescence emission that changes with the pH of aqueous solutions, making them candidates for pH sensing.
