2,6-Dibromodithieno[3,2-b:2′,3′-d]thiophene (2,6-Dibromo-DTT, DTT-2Br, CAS 67061-69-2) is a dibrominated dithienothiophene used as an intermediate for building semiconducting small molecules, oligomers and conjugated polymers for organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) and organic photovoltaics (OPVs). The bromine groups at both ends make it well suited to coupling reactions.
The DTT core consists of three fused thiophene rings and is one of six DTT isomers. Its flat, rigid, sulfur-rich conjugated framework is thermally robust and gives strong electronic absorption, good hole mobility and high stability. Tight molecular packing in the solid state also supports efficient charge injection.
As an example of its use, a donor material combining DTT and pyrene units, paired with C70 as acceptor, has given solar cells with a power conversion efficiency of 3.60%. The Ossila material is supplied as a fluffy white to off-white powder with purity above 98% by 1H NMR in CDCl3.
- Intermediate for synthesising semiconducting small molecules and oligomers for OFETs.
- Monomer for conjugated and low band gap polymers via cross-coupling reactions.
- Building block for organic photovoltaic donor materials.
- Precursor for OLED materials.
- Starting material for 2,6-bis(dicyanomethylene)-2,6-dihydrodithieno[3,2-b:2',3'-d]thiophene via reaction with tetracyanoethylene oxide.
