2,6-Difluorocinnamic aldehyde (CAS 117338-43-9) is a fluorinated cinnamaldehyde building block carrying fluorine atoms at the 2- and 6-positions of the phenyl ring. Supplied as white crystals with >97% purity, it serves as an intermediate in the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and macromolecules for drug discovery, medicinal chemistry and biochemistry research.
Its propenal group offers several reactive sites: Gillman reagents add to it in a conjugate fashion, while Grignard reagents add directly at the aldehyde carbon. Nucleophilic substitution with methylbenzimidazole gives antimicrobial compounds with a reported potency of 32 µg/mL.
The compound also condenses with dipyrromethene under oxidative conditions catalysed by DDQ (2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone) to form hexaphyrin molecules, and its alkene unit is useful in ruthenium-catalysed C-H activation chemistry.
- Intermediate for the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients.
- Preparation of antimicrobial compounds via nucleophilic substitution with methylbenzimidazole.
- Synthesis of hexaphyrins through DDQ-catalysed oxidative condensation with dipyrromethene.
- Substrate for ruthenium-catalysed C-H activation reactions.
- Conjugate and direct addition chemistry with Gillman and Grignard reagents.
