2,6-Di(pyridin-4-yl)naphthalene, also known as DPyN or 2,6-bis(pyridin-4-yl)naphthalene, is a rigid, linear linker molecule used to construct metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and related coordination structures. Its naphthalene core carries a 4-pyridyl group at each of the 2 and 6 positions, giving two nitrogen donor sites at opposite ends of the molecule.
The compound is prepared by Suzuki coupling of 2,6-dibromonaphthalene with 4-pyridylboronic acid, with tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium serving as the catalyst. It is supplied as an off-white powder or crystal with a purity above 98%.
Beyond framework chemistry, the DPyN core has been combined with coumarin pendant groups to create single-molecule white-light-emitting systems in water. The naturally self-folded conformation of these molecules can improve intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) efficiency, resulting in pure white emission.
- Serves as a rigid linear pillar or linker in metal-organic framework synthesis.
- Supports MOF thin films designed for tandem catalysis.
- Acts as a building block for single-molecule white-light-emitting compounds.
- Used in the construction of metallosupramolecular assemblies and 3-D coordination networks.
