2,8-Dibromodibenzothiophene (CAS 31574-87-5), also known as DBDBT, is a dibenzothiophene carrying two bromine atoms. Dibenzothiophene itself can be pictured as a biphenyl unit bridged by a sulfur atom. The bromide end groups make the compound well suited to coupling reactions, so it serves as a starting block for small molecules, oligomers and polymers used in organic electronics.
Materials derived from it are used as phosphorescent hosts, electron transport layers and active layers in OLEDs, OFETs and OPVs. Oxidation with hydrogen peroxide in acetic acid yields 2,8-dibromodibenzothiophene-5,5-dioxide. Solution-processed OFETs based on syn-TBBT made from this compound reach hole mobilities of up to 10.1 cm2 V-1 s-1. The derivative PPT, an ambipolar host and electron transport material, gave blue FIrPic OLEDs with a power efficiency of 30 lm W-1 and a current efficiency of 42 cd/A.
Ossila supplies the material at >99% purity (HPLC) as a white to off-white powder or crystals.
