2'-amino-1,1':4,1''-terphenyl-4,4''-dicarboxylic acid, also known as H2TPDC-NH2 (CAS 1312703-28-8), is a linear terphenyl ligand used as an organic linker in the synthesis of metal organic frameworks (MOFs). Its rod-like backbone carries electron-accepting carboxylic acid groups at each end, while an electron-donating amino group sits on the central benzene ring.
This linker has been used to build a 2D porous terbium framework, Tb-DBA, prepared solvothermally from Tb3+ cluster nodes. The resulting material senses Al3+, Cr3+ and Fe3+ ions selectively and reversibly through fluorescence enhancement, with detection limits down to the nM level, and the ions can be seen by eye under UV light.
The same ligand forms the chemically stable porous framework UiO-68@NH2, which detects trinitrophenol (TNP) in water at concentrations as low as 0.4 ppm within a few seconds. Its excitation and emission both lie in the visible region, and the quenching constant for TNP is 5.8 × 10^4 M−1. Ossila supplies the compound as a yellow powder or crystal with a purity of >98%.
