2-Bromo-6-fluoronaphthalene (CAS 324-41-4, C10H6BrF) is a naphthalene derivative carrying both a bromo and a fluoro substituent. It serves as an intermediate for building semiconducting molecules, including fluorophores, for OFETs, OLEDs, organic photovoltaics and perovskite solar cells, and it can also be used directly as an interface material. Purity is >98% by 1H NMR.
In fully printable mesoscopic perovskite solar cells, the compound can be applied as a post-treatment interfacial modulator. Its bromine end acts as an electrophilic site that forms a noncovalent halogen bond with iodide ions in the perovskite, while the fused naphthalene rings take up electron density drawn from the perovskite, giving a more favourable band structure at the interface.
Fluorination lowers HOMO and LUMO energy levels and can strengthen intermolecular interactions through hydrogen bonding and/or π–π stacking, which may improve charge transport and overall device performance.
- Building block for synthesising fluorophores for OLEDs, such as deep-blue emitters.
- Intermediate for semiconducting molecules used in organic photovoltaics.
- Interfacial post-treatment modulator for printable mesoscopic perovskite solar cells.
- Synthesis intermediate for materials used in OFETs and low band gap polymers.
