2-Bromo-9H-carbazole (CAS 3652-90-2), also known as 2-bromocarbazole, is a carbazole intermediate carrying a single bromine atom at the 2-position alongside the ring amine. The bromide substituent makes it a practical starting point for building larger semiconducting small molecules and polymers.
Researchers use it to prepare materials for OLEDs, dye sensitized solar cells, and polymer and perovskite solar cells. One example is PyEtCz, a deep blue fluorescent emitter made from this compound, which combines good thermal stability with a fluorescent quantum yield of 75%; devices based on it reached a maximum luminance of 6573 cd m -2 and a maximum luminance efficiency of 3.24 cd A -1 (3.35%) at CIE (0.15, 0.10). It has also been copolymerised with acrylamide to give amorphous blue–purple room-temperature phosphorescent (RTP) copolymers, where the monomer molar ratio strongly affects emission intensity and quantum yield.
Ossila supplies the compound as an off-white to beige powder with >98% purity (1H NMR) and a melting point of 255 °C, in 25 g, 50 g, 100 g and 250 g packs.
