2-Bromoanthracene (CAS 7321-27-9) is a mono-brominated derivative of anthracene with the formula C14H9Br and a molecular weight of 257.13 g/mol. Supplied by Ossila as a white to off-white powder or crystals with >98% purity (1H NMR), it serves as a building block for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) anthracenes used in OFET and OLED devices.
The bromide substituent gives a convenient reactive site, making the compound a practical intermediate for preparing semiconductor materials for OLEDs, organic photovoltaics and low band gap polymers. It is an isomer of 9-bromoanthracene.
Materials derived from 2-anthracenyl units have shown strong device results: top contact OTFTs based on 2-(anthracen-2-yl)tetracene (TetAnt) reached hole mobility of up to 0.79 cm2 V-1 s-1, ASCTT reached 0.1 cm2 V-1 s-1 with photoresponsivity up to 3370 A/W, and a blend of 2-fluorenyl-2-anthracene and 2-anthryl-2-anthracene produced solid-state white emission at CIE (0.33, 0.34) at 10 V.
- Synthesis of anthracene-based polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons for organic electronics.
- Preparation of p-type semiconductors for organic field-effect and thin-film transistors.
- Synthesis of emitter materials for OLED devices, including white-emitting blends.
- Intermediate for organic photovoltaic materials and low band gap polymers.
- Building block for anthracene–thiophene compounds for optoelectronic applications.
