2-Bromodibenzothiophene (CAS 22439-61-8), also known as 2-Bromodibenzo[b,d]thiophene, is a dibenzothiophene carrying a single bromine atom at the 2-position. Researchers use it as a starting intermediate for building larger organic semiconductor molecules and oligomers for light-emitting diodes, field-effect transistors and photovoltaic devices.
The bromide substituent makes the compound a convenient handle for further coupling reactions. Published work shows it as a precursor to host materials such as DB2tCz, prepared with 3,6-bis(carbazol-9-yl)-9H-carbazole, which combined a Tg of 185 °C with a triplet energy of 2.93 eV; blue PhOLEDs using DB2tCz with FIrPic reached 20.0% external quantum efficiency. Related dibenzothiophene-based structures such as DSTPA have served as green fluorescent emitters and hosts for red phosphors.
The material is supplied as a white to off-white powder or crystals with a purity above 98% by 1H NMR, a molecular weight of 263.15 g/mol and a melting point of 250-252 °C. Pack sizes of 25 g, 50 g and 100 g are offered.
