2-TNATA, or 4,4',4''-Tris[2-naphthyl(phenyl)amino]triphenylamine (CAS 185690-41-9), is a starburst-shaped triphenylamine derivative used as a hole-injection layer (HIL) and hole-transport material in organic light-emitting diodes. It forms highly uniform thin films, and its low ionization potential of around 5.1 eV makes it well suited to injecting holes from the anode.

The material is offered as a sublimed grade with purity above 99.0% and as an unsublimed grade with purity above 98.0%. Sublimation is used to reach ultra-pure grades for demanding device work. It appears as a pale yellow to yellow powder or crystals.

In p-i-n OLEDs, a p-doped transport layer combining tungsten oxide (WO3) with 2-TNATA has been shown to markedly improve hole injection and conductivity in Alq3-based devices, giving long lifetime, a low driving voltage of 3.1 V and a power efficiency of 3.5 lm/W at 100 cd/m2. It has also been reported in green, red, deep blue and white OLED architectures.

  • Hole-injection layer between ITO anodes and hole-transport layers in OLEDs.
  • Host for p-type doping with WO3 in p-i-n OLED transport layers.
  • Hole-transport material in green, red and deep blue OLED device stacks.
  • Hole-injection layer in white and top-emitting white OLEDs.
