2ClIC (CAS 2197167-50-1), also known as IC-2Cl, is an electron-withdrawing malononitrile end-group building block used to synthesise non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs). Researchers use it to prepare acceptors such as ITIC-DCl, IEICO-4Cl, IXIC-4Cl and BTP-4Cl for high-efficiency non-fullerene organic solar cells (NFOSCs).
The two chlorine substituents are thought to strengthen the intermolecular charge transfer (ICT) effect more noticeably than the fluorine atoms in the related 2FIC. The trade-off is that chlorinated NFAs generally have lower LUMO levels, which can lower the open-circuit voltage (VOC) and may affect the overall power conversion efficiency of the finished OPV device.
Ossila supplies 2ClIC as a pale yellow solid with a purity above 98% as determined by NMR, in 500 mg, 1 g and 5 g pack sizes.
