2HIC, or 3-(Dicyanomethylidene)indan-1-one (CAS 1080-74-6), is an indanone derivative with a strongly electron-deficient character. Because it pulls electron density, it serves as a key end-group building block in the synthesis of non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) such as ITIC, IHIC, IEIC and IXIC, which are used in high-efficiency organic photovoltaic devices.
Beyond solar cell research, this malononitrile-based intermediate is also applied to the preparation of chromophores with distinctive photophysical behaviour, including large second-order optical nonlinearities.
Ossila supplies 2HIC at >98% purity, as determined by NMR. The material appears as a pale yellow to reddish yellow solid with a literature melting point of 228 °C, and is offered in 5 g, 10 g and 25 g pack sizes.
