3,3′′,5,5′′-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)-p-terphenyl (H4TCPT, CAS 1816997-25-7) is a p-terphenyl ligand bearing four 4-carboxyphenyl arms, used as an organic linker for constructing metal organic frameworks (MOFs). It is supplied as an off-white powder or crystal with purity above 98%.
With zirconium clusters, H4TCPT forms BUT-14, a stable and highly porous framework (BET surface area 3,595 m2 g−1) whose fluorescence is quenched by trace Fe3+ in water, giving selective detection down to 212 ppb. The chromium analogue Cr-soc-MOF-1 reaches 4,549 m2/g and takes up 200 wt % of water over more than 100 adsorption-desorption cycles while remaining chemically and hydrolytically stable.
Combined with aluminium nodes, the ligand yields Al-soc-MOF, which meets the dual methane storage target of 0.5 g/g gravimetric and 264 cm3 (STP)/cm3 volumetric, and shows the highest total gravimetric and volumetric CO2 and oxygen uptake at relatively high pressures among microporous MOFs.
- Synthesis of zirconium, chromium and aluminium MOFs as a tetracarboxylate linker.
- Fluorescent MOF sensors for selective detection of Fe3+ ions in water.
- Water and moisture adsorbents for dehumidification, moisture control and adsorption-based desalination.
- Adsorbents for adsorption heating and cooling pumps.
- Porous materials for methane, carbon dioxide and oxygen storage.
