3,3'-Difluoro-5,5'-bis(trimethylstannyl)-2,2'-bithiophene, also known as DFBT-bisSn (CAS 1619967-09-7), is a fluorinated bithiophene building block supplied at >98% purity. It serves as a monomer for preparing small molecules and polymer semiconductors for organic electronics, including polymers such as P(NDI2OD-T2F). Ossila chemists have also used it in-house to prepare PBDD4T-2F.
Both ends of the bithiophene core carry trimethyltin groups, making the compound ready for straightforward coupling reactions. The fluorine atoms on the backbone are thought to improve the crystallinity of the resulting conjugated polymers, giving stronger chain orientation and better-optimised domain sizes in thin-film blends with fullerene or non-fullerene acceptors.
The material appears as white flakes, crystals or powder and is relevant to work on OFETs, OLEDs, organic photovoltaics and low band-gap polymers.
- Synthesis of conjugated semiconducting polymers such as P(NDI2OD-T2F) and PBDD4T-2F.
- Preparation of small-molecule semiconductors for organic electronic devices.
- Development of donor and acceptor materials for fullerene and non-fullerene polymer solar cells.
- Building low band-gap polymers for organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) and OLED research.
